Computing
Computer education is an integral part of learning at school and starts in Year 7 with introductions to ICT concepts and programming. In Years 8 and 9 students continue to develop their skills in design, animation, graphics manipulation and programming. Students have the opportunity to study GCSE Computing which allows them to learn about how computers work. They do not just learn what’s ‘inside the box’ but also how to build and configure a computer. In addition, students begin to investigate the way in which software is compiled, planning and coding their own solutions to problems they are given. Students who study GCSE Computing are able to progress this interest in Sixth Form by opting for the Level 3 BTEC Extended Certificate in Computing.
As an alternative, students may choose to follow the Level 2 OCR Creative iMedia qualification in Years 10 and 11, honing their skills in using computers for creative purposes such as web design and video animation. This interest can be further nurtured through opting for Level 3 OCR Digital Media in Sixth Form.

Instilling a love of cooking in students will ensure that they are able to mature and support themselves through learning how to cook healthily which is a crucial life skill that will affect them and their families now and in the future. Students follow a Food & Nutrition course at Key Stage 3, having the opportunity to prepare and learn about dishes from around the world.
