Taking part in activities outside the classroom is a great way for students to build positive relationships, develop self-esteem and lead an active and healthy lifestyle. The commitment of our students to the extra-curricular programme and the high standards they display demonstrate that the school’s mission ‘determined to achieve’ resonates way beyond their academic work.
Expand your Horizons
Formby High School prides itself on the quality and diversity of its extra-curricular programme. Curriculum areas across the school offer an exciting range of activities at lunchtimes, after school and at weekends to enhance the curriculum provision in creative, stimulating and challenging ways.
Within both the Creative Arts and the PE and Sport curriculum areas, we offer an enviable selection of opportunities, which place us firmly in the highest performing schools in the country in many activities with participation in local and national competitions, festivals and events. Students across the school are also engaged in Sports Leadership training and the Arts Council Arts Award programme to develop valuable leadership and creative skills.
Activities such as these are enhanced further through opportunities to join the Science Club, Astronomy, Creative Writing Club, Culture Club and the Chess Club. Students are also actively engaged in self-managed charity work.
Our high-profile Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme programme is second to none and allows hundreds of students to work towards their Bronze, Silver and Gold awards across Year 9-13.
Students in the Sixth Form are also offered the opportunity to take part in Enrichment activities each Wednesday afternoon, to develop valuable lifelong skills. These include EPQ, Arts Award, Tomorrow’s Teachers, Introduction to Psychology, Cooking for College, Health and Fitness, Finance and Polyglots.
We are constantly striving to enhance our extra curricular offer with new, specialist activities. In order to facilitate this, we will be launching a selection of practical coaching sessions with external practitioners throughout the year in Sport and the Creative Arts. Enrolment on these sessions will involve a termly fee, payable via our Parent Pay online system.
