Our annual penalty shoot-out in memory of former Year 11 student, Kevin Williams who sadly lost his life at Hillsborough, took place on 17 April.
Thanks to Mr Quayle and his support from LFC Foundation, this event was particularly special this year. Not only did we have some special guests and activities to mark the Hillsborough anniversary, Mr Quayle wanted to support the school community in doing some good in Kevin’s memory, undertaking fundraising for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MND). Despite a grey and wet morning, the sun and blue skies appeared just in time for the event on the school fields, supported by a huge audience of students, staff and VIPs from MND, LFC Foundation, and some ex LFC players, including the legendary Sammy Lee. As always, the event was attended by Kevin’s family – with nephew Finn taking a penalty himself.
As Kevin was himself a member of the FHS Y11 football team, the tradition for this event is for our current Year 11 Football team to take on staff members for the annual shoot-out competition. This is all designed to keep Kevin and all those who did not return from the Hillsborough match that day, and their loved ones, firmly in our hearts and minds. Competition was fierce and friendly, with some amazing penalty skills on display and some heroic goalkeeping. The Year 11 team players finally took this year’s glory with a 11-10 win over the staff team… well done boys!
