GCSE RESULTS 2024

A Proud Day at Formby High School!

Formby High School is celebrating a record-breaking set of GCSE results in 2024. The ‘Class of 2024’ has excelled, achieving some of the highest results in the school’s history.

  • English and Maths success – results were very strong this year. 76% students achieved at least a Grade 4 in both subjects, while the proportion of students achieving Grade 5 or better rose by 10% to an impressive 59%, with 21% reaching Grade 7 or above.
  • Strong attainment across the curriculum – great success has been achieved in both GCSE and vocational subjects. 83% of all entries scored Grade 4 or above and nearly three-quarters of entries awarded at least a Grade 5. Pleasingly, achievement in the vast majority of subjects remains well above the national average.
  • High achievers – over a third of all grades were awarded at Grade 7 or above, and with 23 students attaining at least nine Grade 7s or more. In total, 108 Grade 9s were awarded to students, with a number of students achieving quite exceptional grades.
  • Exceptional progress – early indications suggest that this year’s students have made progress that is well above the national average since joining Formby High, enabling them to access the post-16 pathway of their choice.

The majority of students will be returning to Formby High School’s Sixth Form and there was great excitement as they enrolled on their new courses this morning. We look forward to seeing them in September, and to welcoming a number of new students to the school community. For those students venturing on to pastures new, they leave with our very best wishes and thanks for all they have contributed to the life of the school.

Headteacher, Mr Alex Wood, commented:

“I am delighted to see the joy on the faces of students, parents and staff today. These results are outstanding and are testimony to the hard work and commitment of everyone involved. The resilience of this group of students should not be underestimated. After having their first few years in high school badly disrupted by the pandemic, they have shown great determination to bounce back and have excelled, achieving the school’s best results ever.”

Mr David Pearson, Chair of Governors, said:

On behalf of my fellow Governors, I would like to congratulate all our students receiving their grades today.  We are proud of every one of them for their resilience and hard work and very pleased that many of them will be staying with us at FHS Sixth Form. We would also like to thank all the staff at the school for their tireless efforts in support of these students, both in the classroom and beyond.
