Formby High School’s U15 football team have been crowned national champions in the English Schools’ FA PlayStation FC Schools’ Cup following an exciting final match played at the West Bromwich Albion stadium last night.

Formby High School secured a 2-1 victory over Kingsdale Foundation School from London.   The team entered the final having played nine games across the previous rounds and conceding only two goals.  After taking an early lead through a Harrison Rimmer goal, their opponents equalised midway through the second half.  Formby High School clinched the victory with a stunning 35 yard effort from Zac Johnson, who caught the goal keeper off his line.  It was a highly competitive game with both teams creating plenty of opportunities to score and credit must be given to Kingsdale.

I am unbelievably proud of the team’s success.  Every player who played in yesterday’s final was outstanding, as they have been throughout the season.  Individually, they are exceptional footballers but what is more striking is their ability to play as a team, support one another and produce mesmerising football.  My thanks and congratulations also go to the players in the squad who weren’t able to play yesterday and Mr Hunt, their passionate Team Manager.”
