COMMUNITY GOVERNOR

Formby High School is a thriving and successful part of the Formby community and takes great pride and responsibility in the role it plays within it. Formby High School’s Governors are responsible for setting the school’s vision and strategic direction, and work on behalf of the school and all its stakeholders to drive the organisation forward and strive to develop and improve at every opportunity. The work of the Governing Body is vital, varied, rewarding and demanding.

Formby High School is very fortunate to have a team of Governors who bring a genuine passion and enthusiasm for the school’s development. Each Governor brings vital skills and experience from their respective backgrounds and careers to the work of the Governing Body. Currently, the group is enriched by professionals from Education (primary, special educational needs and higher education), Law, Finance, Civil Engineering, and Architecture, who all volunteer their valuable time to support our work. We fully accept that having full-time working professionals around the table can sometimes present a barrier to the amount of time they have available for Governor duties, in particular, their capacity to take on the time commitments of a leadership role.

I have served as a Governor at Formby High School since 2014 and have been Chair of Governors since 2016. It is my intention to retire at the end of my current term of office in Summer 2022, and the Governing Body is working together on succession planning and recruitment needs for the future to ensure we maintain the right blend of skills and experience in the group. As part of this process, we are seeking to appoint a Community Governor to be in place for academic year 2021/22 who not only holds a genuine passion for education and the continuing development of this fantastic school, but who also aspires to a leadership role in governance in the future. Interested parties should, therefore, be able to demonstrate experience in a leadership capacity and a firm commitment to the anticipated time demands a governance leadership role would entail. The role would particularly suit a retired professional (with or without previous education sector experience) who is a member of the Formby community.

Community Governors are appointed by the Governing Body and must be a person who lives or works in the community served by the school, and/or a person who, in the opinion of the Governing Body, is committed to the government and success of the school.

If you would like to learn more about governance at Formby High School, in particular opportunities for leadership, please contact me via our Clerk to Governors, Mrs Lucy Forster, who will be happy to provide you with an information pack ([email protected] / 01704 835650).

Interested candidates would then be required to submit an expression of interest letter outlining the skills and experience they would bring to the Governing Body and why they would be interested in this position. Letters should be emailed to the Clerk to Governors no later than 11 June 2021. On receipt of this information, a meeting will be arranged to discuss further

We very much look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely

Fiona Grieveson (Chair of Governors)
