Daniel (Year 8) received the Special Young Person of the Year award at the inaugural ‘Pride of Formby’ Awards ceremony on 14 October. Daniel was nominated for the award by his mother who last year was diagnosed with skin cancer and, after further investigations, an aggressive breast cancer in January this year. Since then, she has undergone surgery and six months of chemotherapy which really took its toll on the whole family.
This must have been a very frightening time for my children however Daniel in particular has been absolutely amazing, and at just twelve and in his first year at Formby High he has dealt with all of this with bravery and a level of maturity beyond his years. Daniel has been up early to hoover and mop before school when I couldn’t, after my surgery. He has looked after his little sister and kept her entertained when I haven’t been well enough to. He has been shopping and even massaged my feet when I have been poorly! He has laughed and cried with me when I lost my hair and he tells me every day he thinks I look beautiful! He is so positive, and starts every day with…how are you feeling today mum? If all of that wasn’t enough, in June, he took part in the Cancer Research race for life and came 5th overall. He helped our family raise £3400. I would love to recognise how amazing he has been.
