The National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM) was set up in 2006 to support schools, colleges, teachers and anyone seeking maths-specific professional development.
Mr Symes, Teacher of Mathematics and Key Stage 3 Mathematics Coordinator at FHS, has successfully completed the Secondary PD Lead Programme with the NCETM as part of his work on the Maths Mastery course.
Mr Symes said “The accreditation from the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics is the culmination of almost three years’ work. The NCETM and North West Maths Hubs have been excellent partners who have really helped me to develop an understanding for how to deliver Mathematics teaching in the best possible way for our students to learn and retain information, as well as enjoy the subject, learning from models in places such as Shanghai, Singapore and Japan. Putting these practices into place and continuing to develop is our goal at Formby, to give our students the best possible base to achieve their potential.”
As part of the programme, Mr Symes will also be working with other schools in the region to help them to learn from our practice and develop too.
Well done, Mr Symes!
