As the 30th anniversary of the Hillsborough tragedy approaches next Monday, Formby High School has once again come together to remember Kevin Williams, a Year 11 FHS student who sadly lost his life at Hillsborough.  It is now tradition for us to hold an annual penalty shoot-out in his name where our Year 11 football team takes on staff in a fun competition.  Kevin loved football and there is no better way for us to honour his memory than through this sport he loved, and to enjoy it together as a school community.  This year we also welcomed the crew of BBC Newsround who came along to film the event and do some interviews with some of our younger students about the importance of remembering Kevin and Hillsborough.

For the first time in quite a few years, the Year 11 team emerged victorious with a 12-10 victory – well done boys!

Throughout the event, members of our school community donated loose change towards the Kevin Williams Memorial Fund which the school will use to ensure his memory remains at the heart of the FHS community for many generations to come.  The new Kevin Williams Memorial Garden is in place outside the school entrance and we plan to develop this further over the years.  Thank you to everyone who has made contributions to this wonderful cause and further donations will always be most welcome.
