The Northern Exchange programme began in May when Formby High School dance company ‘Eleven’ were selected to become part of a dance exchange aimed at encouraging youth authored work. On Day One, our dancers workshopped and shared work at Northern Contemporary Dance in Leeds. Following this initial workshop, we were given a budget to create an experience for our dancers which would encourage them to make their own work. With this budget, a second day was organised in September, involving sharing of youth work which was performed at The Northern Ballet, Leeds. The dancers created a group piece as part of this project based on Anthony Gormley’s Another Place.
The Dance for Camera film is the culmination of this project. The dancers will recreate their dance piece amongst the iron men on Crosby beach. The film is also part of an educational process linked to the BTEC course where students learn about site specific performance and screen dance. The dancers will be braving the elements to capture on film the choreographic storytelling of everyday events on the beach.
