Formby High School offers a wide variety of options for students to study within Technology.
Students follow a curriculum that allows them to explore Business Studies, Computing, Design and Technology and Food and Nutrition.
Business Studies is offered at Key Stage 4 and 5 and proves to be a very popular option. The GCSE course looks at how a business is setup and managed along with managing money within in a business. At A Level students can study towards a single or a double award course. Both options look at things such as stakeholders, marketing and finance.

Computer Education is an integral part of learning at school and starts in Year 7 with introductions to ICT concepts and programming. In Years 8 and 9 students continue to develop their skills in design, animation, graphics manipulation and continuing development of programming skills.
At GCSE both ICT and Computing are offered.
In ICT students explore the ways in which software and hardware impacts on real situations and further develops skills to allow them to confidently and safely access the digital world around them. This is further developed at A level.
In Computing students look at how computers work and are expected to learn not just what’s ‘inside the box’ but also to be able to build and configure a computer. In addition students will begin to investigate the way in which software is compiled, planning and coding their own solutions to problems they are given. This is further developed at A level.
Design and Technology
Design and Technology gives students the opportunity to study in modules investigating product design with graphics, resistant materials and textiles during Key Stage 3.
At Key Stage 4 they follow a GCSE course that focuses on Resistant Materials.
Food and Nutrition
As part of their work with food, students are taught how to cook and apply the principles of nutrition and healthy eating. Instilling a love of cooking in students will ensure that they are able to mature and support themselves. Learning how to cook is a crucial life skill that will affect them and their families now and in the future. Students follow Food and Nutrition at Key Stage 3 and can opt to study it at GCSE.
