Teacher Training

At Formby High School, we are committed to providing the best possible atmosphere for trainee teachers to develop. We work closely with the Associated Merseyside Partnership School Centred Initial Teacher Training (AMP SCITT), Edge Hill University and Manchester Metropolitan University to provide a broad range of opportunities across the curriculum for the next generation of teachers to learn alongside us.

Our ITT Professional Mentor programme is delivered throughout the school year by our staff, led by our ITT co-ordinator, with input from specialists across the school. These sessions include training on safeguarding, gender equality, behaviour management, teaching strategies, lesson planning, assessment, teaching post-16, social media use and much more. This ensures a rigorous grounding in all elements of teaching, allowing our prospective teachers to develop a thorough understanding of the expectations of a teacher. Our programme ensures trainees are properly prepared to undertake teaching posts when they leave us and embark on their teaching career, feeding into the Early Career Framework.

Each trainee is assigned a mentor within their chosen subject area. Their curriculum mentor will support them through weekly meetings and provide regular feedback to help trainees to progress towards gaining Qualified Teacher Status.
