FHS is a language rich school. Are you keen to be language rich too?
What is your linguistic capital?
Find out more below about our Modern Languages Department and where languages at Formby High School could take you.
We don’t know what the future holds for our students but we strongly believe that the ability to speak another language will be a great asset for them to possess. This skill will help them to meet new people, get an interesting job and travel the world in the future, whilst improving their knowledge of the English language now.
The benefits of speaking a second (or even third) language are enormous. A proficiency in Modern Languages can lead to careers in translation or tutoring, it can also open doors to working abroad in whatever industry a student may choose. Scientists have proved that learning a new language is a great work-out for the brain because it involves problem-solving, memory and communication.
French and Spanish are at the heart of our Modern Languages provision at Formby High School; however, students who may arrive with English as their second language may have the opportunity to study their native language at GCSE or A Level.

Which languages are you learning? You will learn Spanish in Year 7 here at Formby High School. It is okay if you have not studied Spanish yet in primary school – any language you have been learning will help you with your language learning skills and we will help and guide you.
