Creative Arts

We believe that the Arts and creativity possess a ‘magic key’ to unlocking potential in all students, developing confidence, independence, resilience, pride and cooperation.  These values underpin all aspects of school life, be it in or out of the classroom, promoting academic and personal success.

We are committed to maintaining a broad, balanced and creative curriculum experience from Key Stage 3 to 5, allowing students to immerse themselves in a range of practical, innovative and challenging opportunities within the performing and expressive arts, and across the wider curriculum.

At Key Stage 3, we offer discrete lessons in Music, Drama and Art, with Dance offered within the PE curriculum.  Whilst we are increasingly aware of national pressures to focus on the prominence of the EBACC, we are determined to maintain a strong suite of creative courses for our students, supporting our philosophy and real belief that such subjects offer value and importance, not only in their academic development but in building character, expression and resilience.  Many of the new Year 7 students will have had the experience of regular Music, Art and Drama lessons and extra curricular dance programs, and will have taken part in the Year 7 Rock at our annual presentation evening which includes the whole of our Year 7 cohort.  This programme is at the heart of our plans to inspire our students and develop creative and confident young people.

We provide options for GCSE courses in Dance, Drama, Fine Art and Music. At Sixth Form, our creative curriculum includes A Levels in Art & Design, Music, Music Technology, Theatre Studies and BTEC Level 3 Dance. Our Enrichment Programme includes the Arts Award Gold and the Extended Project Qualification, offering visual and performing arts students exciting developmental opportunities.

We have excellent facilities for Dance, Music, Drama and Art. Our team of specialist staff deliver lessons to all students offering many options for further education in the Arts. Extra curricular opportunities are excellent. We regularly offer regular performances for all key stages to participate in and educational visits including international tours to China, Kenya, Canada and Las Vegas.

Our community arts programme, enables us to work in close collaboration with our partner primary schools. Music and Dance specialists regularly visit our partner primary schools to deliver a range of exciting opportunities that have encumbered in joint performances across the year.

We are very proud of the Creative Arts at Formby High School.  Over many years we have built up a vibrant and exciting department full of Music, Dance, Drama and Art.  Discover more about each of the subject areas below:
