Formby High School currently has two vacancies on the Governing Body for Parent Governors. Governors of Formby High School consider Parent Governors to be essential and invaluable contributors who bring an important perspective to the strategic work of the Governing Body. We acknowledge that the role of governance is evolving with increasing importance on ensuring we have right skills around the table and we are confident that we can find these from skills within our parent community. Following a recent skills audit of current members, the Governing Body is particularly interested in identifying candidates who are able to bring skills / expertise in any of the following:
- leadership, in particular strategic development and managing change
- finance and/or accounting
- health and safety
The most important thing as a Governor of Formby High School is to have a keen interest in the school, a commitment to its development and to be prepared to play an active part of the Governing Body’s work.
The School is at a very exciting stage in its development and becoming a Governor will enable you to work as part of a dedicated and hardworking team of volunteers to influence the future direction of the school. The Governors of the school meet as a Full Governing Body six times per academic year and also attend a selection of committee meetings, interview panels and school events. The most important duty of a Governor is to attend the scheduled meetings and you must be sure that you are committed and able to do this before applying. All meetings are held at 5:00pm in school.
If you have a nomination to make or you wish to nominate yourself, please complete the attached form and return it to the Headteacher no later than Thursday 23 January 2020 at 9:00am. If you are nominating another parent, you are expected to obtain the agreement of the person through signature on the nomination form. Nominees must be the parent or guardian of a child currently attending the school. Please refer to the enclosed details regarding eligibility/disqualification. Governors are subject to Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance to Enhanced level.
It may be that more nominations than available posts will be received and, if that is the case, it will be necessary to hold an election later this term. I will write to you further once the above nomination deadline has passed.
