The song will receive its premiere at the Alder Centre Candle Service on Thursday 9 December. This is a beautiful, annual event that supports and celebrates the fantastic work undertaken by the Alder Centre for bereaved parents and families. The service is held in Liverpool Cathedral and provides an opportunity for reflection, remembrance and hope for the Alder Centre community. This year’s event will, once again, be streamed online.

MERSEYSIDE SCHOOLS VIRTUAL CHOIR: Above Us Only Sky
Throughout 2021, our Music Department team at Formby High School have encouraging enthusiastic singers from across Sefton and Merseyside to add their voices to a new virtual choir track. Recorded at school, remotely at home and in local primary schools, ‘Above Us Only Sky’ is a super catchy, original pop song which celebrates all that is amazing and unique about our Liverpool city region. The music and lyrics were composed by Mr Cook, Mr Heatherington and GCSE Music students. Vocal coaching was also provided by Miss Dilworth and Mr Cook. Thanks to Sefton LCEP for their support and to everyone who contributed their amazing voices – young and older, far and wide!

VIRTUAL CHOIR LIVE LOUNGE FOR ALZHEIMER’S UK
Following the success of our Virtual Choir rehearsal in May, which generated a fantastic £1600 for Alzheimer’s UK, our Music Department has carried on their fundraising work with a virtual concert just before the end of the academic year.
Following 10 weeks of weekly Zoom gigs, the team set aside a two hour window for a ‘Lockdown Live Lounges: Greatest Hits’ season finale. The evening featured a whole host of performers who had taken part so far who performed their favourite tracks.
We had a ‘star-studded’ line-up of students from all years, staff, parents and friends who are really brilliant – all performing live and unleashed from home – everything from classical harp, folk fiddle, ukulele, guitar, piano, clarinet, cello … and singers from all genres – jazz, blues, pop, soul, musical theatre and stunning original singer-songwriting!
Thanks again to everyone involved for their amazing support over the past few months – we are really grateful and touched by the response from our online audiences. It has meant so much to so many people!

PARENT FEEDBACK
Music is such an amazing gift, isn’t it? What a fab amount has been raised for Alzheimer’s… over £700… wow! It’s a cause very close to our hearts, as you know. I really hope you’ll have a chance for a good rest over the summer. I can’t imagine how difficult this term has been for you and all the staff at Formby High. Let’s hope things are back to a relative normal in September.”
We can’t thank you enough for all the hard work you’ve put into Lockdown Live Lounges!
Having the weekly event has given everyone something to focus on during this truly difficult time! What will we do on Wednesday evenings now?”
Just a very quick message to say thank you for organising the Lockdown Lounges over the recent weeks. We’ve loved being a part of it all … so many of the lovely performances! Thanks, especially, for the fundraiser last night. It’s a cause which is very close to home so bravo for surpassing your target so comfortably!”
