From Friday 25 May 2018, the General Data Protection Regulation came into force in the UK. The purpose of this new regulation is to protect people in the modern information age. It gives more control to individuals and more responsibilities to organisations which collect and hold personal data. As a school we are a Data Controller and must comply with this new legislation.
Formby High School takes data protection seriously and is working very hard to ensure all appropriate systems and procedures in place are robust and in line with new legislative requirements.
What is GDPR?
Navigating data protection legislation can be daunting. FHS works with GDPR in Schools (GDPRiS) to manage and monitor our data protection activities in school. They have developed two useful tools for parents which offer some very simple guidance on what GDPR means for you.

Data Protection at FHS
It is important that you are aware of what personal data the school holds and how we collect, store, share and dispose of it.
- Privacy Notice for Parents and Students – this document tells you all about the data we process, why and how.
- Data Protection Policy – this policy underlines how the school organises, protects and controls the processing of personal data.
Data Protection Lead (DPL)
It is important that you have a first point of contact within the school for any general queries relating to Data Protection. For this purpose, you should contact:
- Mrs Lucy Forster, Data Protection Lead for Formby High School: email@example.com / 01704 873100
Data Protection Officer (DPO)
Under the GDPR, data controllers are required to appoint a Data Protection Officer (DPO) to monitor compliance with data protection law and provide expert advice and guidance on data protection. The DPO is the first point of contact for individuals whose data the school processes and for the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). Further information is contained in the Privacy Notice and Data Protection Policies.
